Before you import any tasks, you should be aware of the following rules and restrictions of the import facility.
Import File Integrity
Project Assistant Checks the workbook names and will only continue if a workbook called "Tasks" is found. otherwise an error message is displayed and the import aborted.
Project Assistant Checks the field names match those generated by the MS Projects Export wizard, failure to find these fields will compromise the import.
You can generate this file manually but you must maintain the workbook and column naming schema.
Import Rules
When importing new task, PA will identify these tasks as created by the current user who is logged in.
PA will creating these task under the currently selected project, so ensure you have selected the correct project on the project tree first.
PA will check your user default settings and try to assign the default Priority and Status of each Task, therefore ensure these are set up correctly before importing.
PA will map the "Start" and "Finish" dates to the "Created Date" and "Due Date" respectively, allowing you to modify the actual start and finish date manually.
PA will only import a task with a resource assigned to it, otherwise it assumes the task to be a "roll up" or "summary" task.
PA will assign tasks to a resource only where the resource name matches with a name in PA's own user database, therefore ensure you add any additional user before importing.
Where a task has a shared resource, PA will only assign the task to the first user in the list.
Practice The Import
Currently PA will only allow you to delete one record at a time, therefore incorrectly importing many task could take time to remove.
It is recommended that you create a copy of your database and import in to this copy database until you are happy with the import results.
